There is something slightly eery about an empty fairground.
The promise of physical abandonment lies in wait as the equipment takes on a surreal presence under a darkening sky. I lived in this town once and was always drawn to the summer-time "pop-up" fairground, which adds a carnival atmosphere to the otherwise tranquil Caroline Bay area of Timaru, New Zealand. It is, however an interesting juxtoposition against the industrial background of the port buildings - the lights of which can be seen in the bottom right-hand corner - also emitting a carnival-like glow to a busy hive of activity, whilst the fairground waits for daylight.
This image required very little editing - just a sharpening tweak.
